Jan. 10- Feb. 28
Beginner: 12-1 pm
Advanced Beginner: 1-2 pm
Part of the culture of Spanish gypsies, flamenco dance has evolved into a popular performing art enjoyed by people of many different cultures. Join us for this introductory class, and learn the fundamentals of flamenco dance, including footwork combinations, arm work, posture, and palmas (hand clapping). No prior dance experience is necessary.
The prerequisite for the advanced-beginning level is 6-8 weeks of beginning flamenco instruction. This level covers more advanced footwork combinations, new rhythms, palmas, moving across the floor, and some choreography. Both levels begin with a warmup incorporating elements from yoga, taiqi quigong, and dance. Wear character shoes or boots with a heel. Do not wear flamenco shoes with nails because of the studio floor. Women should wear a long, full skirt and men should wear comfortable pants or exercise pants.
Classes do not meet January 17 and February 14.
